Jehovah’s Witnesses have packed out Auckland hotels to near capacity for a major international conference, providing a major boost for the city’s economy.

The Special Convention of Jehovah’s Witnesses will be held at Eden Park from January 9-11, with about 20,000 people in attendance, including 3500 delegates from 20 countries.

A spokesperson for the Jehovah’s Witness church said 38 hotels would be filled throughout the city and the gathering was estimated to boost the economy by $20 million, a figure confirmed by Tātaki Auckland Unlimited destination director Annie Dundas.

Tātaki Auckland Unlimited, the region’s cultural, events, and destination agency, has confirmed that the Special Convention of Jehovah’s Witnesses is forecast to generate 60,500 visitor nights and contribute $20.6 million to the Auckland economy,” Dundas said.
She estimated hotel occupancy is currently at 85% based on STAR Market report analysis, considerably higher than the year-on-year occupancy at 61% for the same period in January 2025.

Hotel Council Aotearoa’s strategic director, James Doolan, was also optimistic about the impact of the event and told the Herald the event has been a positive for businesses in the city and further afield.

“A number of Hotel Council Aotearoa member hotels are reporting sell-out nights or occupancy in the high 90s for the Jehovah’s Witness conference,” Doolan said, “which is attracting both international and domestic travellers to beautiful Auckland.
“Major conferences like this one can be a real economic boost for host regions.

“As well as revenue generated by the conference venue and accommodation providers, delegates spend heavily at restaurants, attractions, transport providers and retailers.

“Many delegates will also venture further afield to other parts of New Zealand.”

Delegates and organizers had been spotted around the Auckland this week, including groups at Mission Bay posing with signs promoting the special convention.

A spokesperson for Jehovah’s Witness church said the event would be the largest faith-based event in New Zealand in decades with the convention being free and open to anyone who wanted to attend.

Jehovah Witness cult block peaceful protestors

Jehovah Witnesses are having a convention at Eden Park and Jonas Skogstroll are leading a protest for children’s rights.  Cult will always try to limit their members access to information.

It’s always good when they show their dark side.

Today we was contacted by a young man that wanted to leave.  I received a message from him later that said:  “I told my mother I don’t believe anymore. I guess I am POMO now.
